NYJ/NYG HS Football Coaches of the Year

The New York Jets and Giants have selected their Tri-State Coaches of the Year. Each coach's program receives $2,000 from the National Football League.

NEW YORK JETS

Pete Gambardella – Curtis HS, NYC
Second year; Career record: 19-4

In just his second season as head coach, the 1993 grad of the Staten Island school led his alma mater to the PSAL championship by beating fellow SI power Tottenville, 16-10. The 1992 All-City WR spent 11 seasons as an assistant with his former high school coach, Fred Olivieri, before being elevated to the top job.

NEW YORK GIANTS

John Liberato – Summit HS, NJ
11th year; Career record: 53-28

Four years ago, Summit HS was going through an 0-10 season. A year later, the 1983 New Providence grad showed up after eight years at Hanover Park and his squad has improved each year, culminating in a perfect 12-0 season and a North Jersey Section 2 Group 2 championship with a 28-19 win over Orange HS.
