"“What events have you covered?” That’s not quite the right question to ask Bill Daughtry. Better to ask what event he doesn’t cover. “Major” wouldn’t begin to describe the events he’s covered in over 25 years of broadcasting – five Super Bowls, two World Series, three NHL All-Star Games, two Major League Baseball All-Star Games, and the 1996 Summer Olympics, to name a few.
In the fall of 1997, Daughtry brought his 27 years of broadcasting experience to Madison Square Garden Network. For MSG, the native of Harlem, NY, he was the co-host of ”Talk of Our Town”, which aired Monday-Friday afternoons. Daughtry has just completed his second season as the host for MSG Radio’s New York Jets games. Daughtry also co-hosts and reports for “MSG SportsDesk ” while also serving as fill-in host for MSG’s Knicks and Mets coverage.
From 1993-1997, Daughtry was a popular host on WFAN sports radio in New York. Over that span he served as a reporter and talk show host and anchored the “20/20 Sports Update” segments. In 1997, Daughtry hosted the New York Giants pre- and post-game shows as well as the “Jim Fassel Show,” a weekly talk show with the Giants head coach.
After attending SUNY Albany, Daughtry began his broadcasting career as a weekend news reporter at WPTR radio in Albany, NY. In 1976, he got his first job in New York City as a news anchor at the National Black Network located at Columbus Circle. The next year, he worked in Westchester County, NY, as a sports and news reporter for WFAS radio.
From 1979 to 1986, his career took him from WGCH radio in Greenwich, CT, to WMCA radio in New York, where he hosted daily talk shows and worked as the between-periods host for the New Jersey Devils in their first two years of existence. While at WMCA, he also hosted the halftime show for the New Jersey Nets. In 1987, he moved to WCBS radio where he hosted and served as Associate Producer for the New York Jets pre- and post-game shows. From 1989-90, he taught at St. John’s University as an adjunct professor in the TV and Radio Department.
A broadcast professional since 1974, Daughtry’s career has taken him across the country, leaving him with a number of unforgettable moments. Daughtry was on the air with the NY Apples professional tennis team during the 1977 blackout that left most of the tri-state area in total darkness for two days. He also announced, during an Islanders pre-game show, that a resolution was made in the 1982 NFL players’ strike. While covering the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996, he was in the International Broadcast Center adjacent to the Olympic Park at the time of the bombing and reported on the wounded visitors being attended to by paramedics and security. At the 1990 Super Bowl, one week after the Desert Storm conflict began, Daughtry witnessed Whitney Houston’s rendition of the national anthem, a stadium full of American-flag waving fans and the fighter jets flying overhead, and credits it as one of the most emotional experiences of his life and career.
Daughtry, an asthma sufferer since childhood, started the “Fund For Fighting Asthma” Foundation to help those afflicted with asthma and help them improve their quality of life by learning how to better manage their condition.
Daughtry, an avid golfer and bowler, lives in Union, NJ, with his wife Carol. He has four children.

Being born again.

attended – or are glad you did attend?
Super Bowl XXV. Nothing else comes close…there will never be anything like it!
