Yankees vs. Mets
2007 Subway Series, Round 1

Yankees

Looking at their roster on paper heading into the season, no one ever expected the Yankees to be 18-21, trailing Boston by 9.5 games in second place in the AL East in mid-May. Early on, the offense was clicking but the starting pitching was abysmal. Now it's the opposite. The Yanks have suffered a litany of injuries and have already sent five different rookies (Kei Igawa, Matt DeSalvo, Jeff Karstens, Phil Hughes and Chase Wright) to the mound - No. 6 will take the hill Sunday in Tyler Clippard - but help should be on the way with Roger Clemens tentatively scheduled to make his 2007 debut on May 28 in Toronto.

Mets
Having won 11 of their last 15 contests, the Mets lead the Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers by a half-game for the National League's best record heading into the weekend set vs. the Yankees. The Amazins have been clicking on all cylinders with solid starting pitching and an offense that never gives up, led by shortstop Jose Reyes who has a MLB-leading 23 steals and seven triples. They've been hit by the injury bug of late - with starters Moises Alou, Jose Valentin and Orlando Hernandez all on the 15-day DL - but fortunately their youngsters, especially Carlos Gomez, have stepped up in their stead.
